Steven M. Clayson

Co-Founder

Steve is a British Citizen and 15+ year resident of Honduras. He first began exploring Utila Island in the year 1996, and after experiencing the natural beauty of this Caribbean paradise, quickly became a renowned local advocate for species conservation and environmental sustainability. The Kanahau Research & Conservation Facility started out as a distant dream on Utila, but by 2012, Steve had gathered enough financial support to manifest it into reality. Going out on a limb, with little more than a dream and a background in carpentry and construction, Steve poured his passion into physically designing and building the Kanahau facility from the ground-up (with his bare hands). Since establishment, Steve has continued to oversee its management team and research activities. He is an lifelong advocate for the nature of Utila and a true wildlife warrior.
